"Mars; Red" takes place in 1923, in an era where vampires have existed for some time. However, their numbers are now increasing, and a mysterious source of synthetic blood, known as Ascra, has also emerged. The Japanese government has created "Code Zero", a unit of the army tasked with dealing with the vampire threat. And what better way to track vampires than to use one of their own? Established by Major Commander Nakajima, this unit, which was previously responsible for information warfare, is now tasked with facing the vampire crisis.
